A Helping Hand~

I had a friend that contacted me earlier this week.  She asked me if I could help her with a fundraiser.  This week was particularly challenging for me, with everything that was going on.  When I was out Friday night, I ran into my girlfriend, she was out with some friends.  We got a chance to chat for a bit & she told me more about what was going on.  A friend of hers, Mother was just diagnosed with breast cancer.  She had already gone through surgery, but needed to have radiation treatments as well as chemotherapy.  Knowing that the likelihood of her losing her hair was great, she wanted to be prepared and have a wig on hand.  I told my friend to go ahead with their fundraiser as planned, and any money that they raised they could put towards her medical expenses and I would help acquire a wig.  I reached out to my PINK Family.  They lovingly came back with different options that we could send to the mother.  I called my friend back all excited with the news.  I asked if I might be able to call the daughter myself.  My friend gave me the number.  I called today, the daughter wasn't in.   So, I started to leave a detailed message.  As I was leaving the message, the woman on the other end of the phone said.  I am her mother, the wig is for me.  I think the whole phone conversation was overwhelming for her.  She was in tears & couldn't understand why a stranger cared so much & was reaching out to help her.  I explained who I am, & that I have been fortunate enough to be part of this wonderful PINK Family for the last 3 years.  We had an hour conversation talking about what she had been through so far and what is to come.  I found out what she was looking for in her wig & took detailed notes.  I told her that I have never had cancer myself, but I know plenty of people who have been where she is at & would be more than happy to give her all the advice and help that they could.  As we were getting ready to end the conversation she said that she was going to talk to her daughter, because the fundraiser was her idea to help earn funds for the wig.  After all that we had talked about, she decided that if her daughter was ok with it.  She would rather put the money earned towards my walk, as I was helping to provide her with a wig.  At that moment I was left speechless!  I told her that it wasn't necessary, but I was flattered that she offered.  All I know is that I have been blessed.  To be able to be a part of this amazing community that is always reaching out to others.  They help meet the needs of people that are in all different stages of dealing with cancer.  This week has just deepened my resolve and my commitment to helping find a cure for cancer.  I know that no organization is perfect, but I can at least rest easy at night knowing that the Susan G. Komen foundation is like any other friend that I have.  We all have our imperfections, but in our imperfections we build character.  If you are going to be in any friendship or relationship you know that each one of us has our own flaws, but you learn to accept them as you do your friend.  Tonight I just want to say that over the last 3 years I have grown so much.  I have learned from wonderful teachers that have shared with me their experiences with cancer.  I have been given the gift of having a PINK Family.  They have given me a new perspective on life.  How to take each moment that we are given, and to find the joy in those moments.  Today, I took the culmination of those lessons that I have learned over the last 3 years and sent them forward.  I hope that the seed that was planted today, will grow into a beautiful flower.  Which over time will blossom, in my new friends heart, and when she is strong enough, she will share her experiences with another when they are in need.  So tonight I just want to say Thank You to my PINK Family and to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  With out them, I would not be who I am today...

Savvy Saturday~ A World of Atti-Tulle ~

I have the pleasure of introducing you to "A World of Atti-Tulle".  A few weeks ago when I first started "Savvy Saturday's"  the business was called Tu-Tu-Riffic, but because of other people having names too close in wording, the name was changed.  With the changing of the name other things have changed as well.  There is a new order form and a new addition to the line.  More new items will be making their debut in the coming months ( so keep checking back! )  In addition to the changes, Lisa has decided to add a contest that will run every two months.  This is how it works.  If you have had your Mammogram in January or February.  You have until Midnight on March 1st to tell Lisa, that you have had your Mammogram.  Then on March 5th she will do a random drawing for a Tu-Tu Tote.  The winner will be able to work with her to create the tote of the winner's dreams.

NEWEST ADDITION

The newest item to come out of the creative works of Atti-Tulle is a "Tulle Belt".  This cute waist belt has 3 deep pockets.  This will help you as you collect money, tickets or whatever else you can think of at your next fundraiser.  You will be the talk of the event with your "Tulle Belt".
I know, your wondering... How can I get this?
I made it so easy for you... All you have to do is Order Here .
The web site is currently under construction, it will be up and running by the
10th of February.
So until then, please visit us at: Atti Tulle
This is the Facebook page for the business.
Here is a copy of the order form if you would like to see all of your
XoXo
P.S.
A Note from Lisa,
Do you want one of my custom made Atti-Tulle TuTu Totes (picture is an example), but just can't swing it right now? Then have I got a deal for you. Every two months I will be giving away one of the custom tote bags!

Entering the drawing is easy. All you have to do is 1) get your mammogram during the two months for that drawing (January and February 2012 for this drawing), and 2) send me a PM or email (Lisa@IPINKICAN.net) with your name, the date of your mammogram, and a phone number where I can reach you if you win. You must be at least 18 years old, and all entries for the January/February drawing must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. EST on March 1st. The winner will be drawn and contacted on March 5th.

Seeing as Komen recommends that clinical breast exams be done annually after the age of 20, I will also accept an annual clinical breast exam unless your doctor recommends a mammogram (which is between you and your doctor). If you are a breast cancer survivor, I will also accept an appointment with your oncologist, any breast cancer procedure, chemo, radiation, etc.

Here is the deal, my goal and motivation for this contest is to promote breast health. I’m easy! I just want all of you to take care of yourselves. You are on the honor system here so just tell me you did what your doctor recommends for your situation in January or February and I'll accept it!

This drawing is for EVERYBODY, so please do me a favor and share this with your friends, family, donors, grocery store clerk, child's teacher, neighbors, fellow survivor, etc., etc., etc. Together we are an unstoppable force and can promote breast health. If it takes a chance to win a TuTu tote to get your scared neighbor to go have her mammogram then by all means do it. Whatever it takes because EVERYONE DESERVES A LIFETIME!

Big PINK Hugs & Good Luck,
Lisa XOXO.....

Peace~

As creative force and owner of this blog.  I felt a responsibility to address the situation at hand.  Last night I wanted to say so much more, but felt that what was needed was a moment of pause.  We all are PASSIONATE, CREATIVE, DRIVEN individuals.  I try to respect each of your thoughts, while sometimes taking that same respect and disagreeing.  We are all individuals that came together because of a cause.  We each had our own experiences as to why breast cancer has moved us to walk countless miles and raise phenomenal amounts of money.  I can not change your mind and that is not my goal.  I believe that your perception is your reality.  I just wanted to say that we joined together as a FAMILY to walk against breast cancer for SGK.  Both SGK and PP have helped to educate, supply services and saved lives.  They both can still accomplish their goals just not in a partnership.  The marriage has ended and like with any divorce their are people that are angry, upset, bewildered, frustrated and a host of other emotions.  I guess all I am trying to say with all of this is that maybe in the future we could all take a moment of pause.  Learn all we can about a situation then come together and talk.  We can not change what has happened, but I hope that we can pull together as a FAMILY and fight the enemy that still hasn't changed through all of this... CANCER!  None of us have a crystal ball or know what the future holds, but I would like to think that SGK has other plans to find ways to help those that so desperately need it.  In closing it saddens me that in all of this people have forgotten the POSITIVE.  Because of SGK lives have been SAVED, strides have been MADE, research is still being DONE.  The choice is yours as to how you will react, deal and move forward in light of the recent news, but I for one choose not to abandon my FAMILY that I have come to love and respect.  I wish their had been more communication so that this did not blind side us, but no relationship is perfect.  I also understand that for every action there is a reaction, but to make any relationship work, it takes UNDERSTANDING, COMMUNICATION, RESPECT and LOVE.
